This post is a must read for the novice and experienced alike. Your line <i>"People worry about 20, or 50, or 100 web feeds because they are considering them in the old frame of scarcity and control– as resources to consume all at once lest they be lost."</i> really captures how many people feel. When I get links to interesting resources, but don't have time to read/view/listen to them, I've learned to just tag them; they'll still be there (usually) when I'm ready for them.

At the other end of the spectrum, and maybe a different flavor of "keeping up doesn't mean 'Keeping Up'" or perhaps of "fine tuning the network," once in a while I have to just reboot to kill all my oprhaned processes, start from scratch, fast from it all for a day or a week, clear the slate and let it regrow. Right now I'm off rss, recently joined a bulletin board community, and paying much closer attention to a handful of _personal_ blogs. Hell, I hardly even look at boingboing lately. But it fits, at least for now.

A fine post.

"this kind of eye-opening experience happens nearly every day... The secrets to doing so aren’t secrets at all" - shouldn't this be at the root of our pedagogy?

"you have to be an active participant in that network" - indeed. Digital citizenship 101.

Brilliant, stem to stern. I predict this post will become one of the classics of its genre. I certainly intend to do my part to make it so.

Thank you, Chris. May your bread return to you an hundredfold.
