etech06 notes: Who is the Dick on My Site
By all accounts Dick Hardt is a good guy and he’s clearly doing some interesting things for all of us. But his presentation was a disaster. I’ve come to expect more Lessig Style Powerpoint presentations, but I’ve never seen one paired up with such ambivalence and dispassion. Which is too bad, because there was a lot of humor in the presentation that would have worked had he not sounded a lot like Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
The basic idea is simple (but not easy): how can I prove that I am who I say I am? How can I disclose the information I want to disclose but control that which I don’t?
Dick’s answer is the brand new SXIP 2.0,a protocol for automating the exchange of identity data on the Internet.
Dick’s previous presentations are held in great esteem– maybe he was just having a rough morning. So, check out his Identity 2.0 Keynote and IT Conversations talk.
