My regular habit for creative juices (LuLu’s) not too long ago made a similar shift to a location that’s not conducive to camping out with sketchbook: no more wifi + an atmosphere that encourages the herd to keep flowing.
I always thought it’d be more of a beneficent, marketable image to promote the stereotypical goatee-stroking bohemians that come with any café establishment, but they do take up real estate.
Still, I’ve lost count of the books that inadvertently and mysteriously wind up getting bought while in my “office” over at Gulliver’s books (free swill + wifi), so there is a trade-off.
And true, bar none the best beans in Alaska; but listening to the hired help get yelled at years ago made me choose a friendlier, less hostile environment. Life’s too short (and the local market has too many other choices) to patronize or put up with that. And besides, if things get too bad there’s always Sanka.

Remind me never to tick off Chris. :) Googling for "Alaska Coffee Roasting Company" (with or without the quotes) returns Chris's blog post as the third result. If I owned ACRC I'd do everything I could to get back in Chris's good graces.

Go Chris!

Note to self: when Chris Lott comes to visit, be sure not to cover up the electrical outlets, the fall out could be earth shattering.

Proprietors like the one you describe so brilliantly in this post are absolutely the worst people in the world to patronize, and it is all the more miserable when the provide a service or good (like good coffee, and in my cases good pizza) that one cannot forego. I never thought about using the blog to even the score. He will be googling his store name at some point, and the mighty pen of Chris Lott will be apparent.
