There have been very few wildfires this year in the Interior, but with all the hot weather they were bound to start kicking up sooner or later!
From his porch above Fairbanks, my boss took this picture of the smoke plume from a fire near Chicken, Alaska (and I am using it here with no permission whatsoever).

Most of Alaska is in a state of “extreme high danger” from wildfires… I remember very clearly when I was in high school and one of the biggest fires ever swept though just behind our subdivision while I was on the roof of our house ducking ashes and cinders while hosing down the shingles. Eventually I was forced to leave (that was when my car got struck by lightning, a story for another time) to a school 20 miles away. All of our homes were spared.
