Reasons I’m “participating”1 in the #Change11 MOOC:

  • Because MOOC sounds kind of like “kook”2
  • Because I’m already massive so I might as well figure out how to be open3
  • Because MOOCs are the new Mauve and
  • Because all the kool kids are doing it4
  • Because the ‘C’ in MOOC could stand for Conference or Constellation or Collective but not Corporation
  • Because things that people do or make but have no definition of are usually interesting things for me5
  • Because I can’t get enough of those short Canadians6
  • Because I need evidence that GeorgeDave are not a single intellectual organism
  • Because it’s 36 freaking weeks long, which is kind of like The Running Man7 of education
  • Because someday I hope to know what Connectivism actually is
  • Because my Erdős number with many of the participants is– and I hope with many other will become– 18
  • Because this counts as participation9
  1. you must interpret this term broadly as you might also interpret things like how I “fold” origami, “write” poems, and “compose” lists like this in threes… which is to say I kind of do things that slightly resemble those activities []
  2. or “cookie,” which is almost as good. []
  3. in a good way []
  4. yo []
  5. cf. pornography, critical thinking, culture, Connectivism, free verse []
  6. to be fair, Stephen isn’t really short, but George and Dave really bring the average down []
  7. or Death Run []
  8. sadly my Erdős–Bacon number is essentially infinity []
  9. but Mr. Lott, how do you assess that? []
